NET METERING

WHAT IS NET-METERING

Net-metering or energy offset is the possibility given to the consumer to offset the energy produced by a photovoltaic station owned by him, with the energy consumed for his/her needs.

The consumer remains connected to the grid, which he indirectly uses as "storage" of energy, to be able to balance the excess energy produced with the energy consumed. In practice, the operation of energy netting is done by placing two different meters (clocks), one incoming (consumption) and one outgoing (production), based on which the final electricity bill is determined.

Households, farmers and small businesses can meet part of their electricity needs through solar energy with the subsidy program for the installation of small photovoltaic roofs.

The "Photovoltaics on the Roof" program concerns net metering systems up to 10 kilowatts. The financing of photovoltaics will cover from 40% to 60% of the investment and aims at the installation of photovoltaic stations for self-consumption of electricity in combination with batteries which contribute to energy savings and lower living costs.

With the process of net metering, the consumer - now producer - can achieve a significant reduction in electricity costs for a period of 25 years. The amortization of the cost of acquiring the system takes place, as a rule, within 8 years and for a period up to 25 years the offset with the energy consumed is a considerable profit for the consumer, while at the same time it is an eco-friendly choice.

As a rule, the net metering solution is more advantageous when the installation takes place in single-family houses with relatively high electricity consumption, while the lower the consumption and the power of the photovoltaic, the longer the period required for amortization.
